Alternatively, the period for hosting the olympics could be extended to accommodate those additional sports. This way more money is earned from attendees at the games and tourists that came for the games.

Actually the moral of the story is, to host the olympics within the budget earmarked for it and also make it economical to manage all built-up sites afterwards. Never let the IOC dictate how much to spend, on what facilities to spend it on and where to spend if it will lead to unnecessary wasteful expenses at the end of the olympics.

"Sport doesn't actually produce anything but it costs a lot". Really? Most sport pundits will disagree with your comment a lot. They will point out the huge rise in wealth, employment, new regulations, improved training facilities among many others which many different sporting events hosted by sport associations have created today. 😀

@streddaz I wasn't referring to the olympic village living quarters that were used by the participating athletes. I was referring to the sport facilities.

@streddaz Still sounds like a failure to me. Hear me out, don't cancel me. Australia is a country that prides itself to be well advanced in sports development. Why can't she put those sports facilities into use by organising, major international sports competitions from time to time, like the australian open (tennis event)? It doesn't have to be as grandiose as the olympics.

Fake news about the cost of hosting Sochi winter olympics in Russia. There is no way Putin would have allowed close to $60billion to be spent on the winter olympics, when he knows fully well the world cup of 2018 which will also cost a lot of money, will be held in russia. Lets also not forget that at about that time, the US govt under Obama had imposed some sanctions on Russia. So, why will Russia go ahead to spend such high ridiculous amount of money on the Sochi winter olympics, and with more sanctions imposed on Russia due to the ongoing war with Ukraine, how come her economy hasn't collapsed by now? Obviously there must have been so much prudent spending through the years during the winter olympic and world cup to this present day. So much fake news right there. 😕
