This is just so refreshing to hear. He's right, there is no training for marriage and parenting unless it is sought out. The most critical part, in my opinion, is choosing the choosing of the partner. Everything else can usually be worked out if you get that part right. I'm speaking from past mistakes. 🙂

"... that's what we're supposed to do." Hmmm, that's an odd thing to say if you really think about it. Marriage isn't a walk in the park, but some people make better choices than other for a variety of reasons. I chose an emotionally disconnected man who was abusive, just like my father. It would have been very damaging to stay any longer than I did, although I put up with it for 20 years because "we're supposed to". There are many unhealthy marriages that are better off ended.

Test giver: What season are we in? Patient: Begins oral dissertation on Fall. Me: I think I see how this is going to go.

And they were learning social skills while exercising.

Fascinating. I can't help but feel for the boy part of him who grew up in the seemingly abusive home. Many people do not realize how much environment affects a growing brain.

I'll sum it up: *Rev. Cleage just shouts and doesn't listen *Parsell (Police Officers Association) points out that these loud few blacks do not speak for all *Rev. Buckley brings up the Stoner rifle out of context. *Prof. Reiss brings up a valid discussion point about whether or not to have such weapons *Dr. Poussaint doesn't understand the job of the police compared to the job of county leaders and law makers *Parsell explains that those particular rifles would be used for a specialized crew to fight snipers. The police were not out to kill blacks, but to try to keep the entire community safe. *Officer Kowalewski (the one with the awesome accent) explains how the police need defense against black militant groups who carry strong weapons and have one goal - to kill white cops. He then showed proof of that. *Robert Curvin was there to fight, did not listen to any answers, cut off the officer every time, gave anecdotal examples and was totally unreasonable. *Mr. Harrington (aka Archie Bunker - lol) brought up facts that show the clear agenda of certain black groups against police. *Chief Jenkins gives the most politically correct comment. Lol *Rev. Williams brings up the idea of "white fear", rather than understanding that it is a police response to a then current problem. He brought up the fact that racism was still alive and well at that time, but recognized that things were changing. If he alone had spoken with police, they might have actually gotten somewhere.

How fun!

My kids were taught "critical thinking" in one of their classes. Unfortunately, the teacher had no idea what that really meant and guided the students to do the exact opposite. It ended up to be a train wreck.

This poor woman suffered largely due to the religious puritan "ethics" of that time, which are finally changing. Those "ethics" weren't very moral, to say the least. They mostly caused stress and shame. If only we could go back in time and offer support for people like Emmaline. And OMG! How about that lady with the engineer cap, squeaky voice and mustache? She is something else! Straight out of a movie! I would like to see her biography!

I would LOVE to know more about the making of this video!!!

It didn't seem that long ago to me. I remember when my mom bought our first word processor. She was pumped!!

Lol

I have heard this story before but don't remember where. It's absolutely heartbreaking. The fact that Nettie loved Emmaline is heartwarming, though. No doubt she brightened the old woman's life. 💜 I realize that times were different back then, but it was so heartless and cruel for her own family to shun her. Religion is rarely a good thing.

I love it all.

May I please adopt you to be my kids' grandpa? Pretty please? 🙂

Tarzan I come from a dysfunctional family and my parents disowned me 15 years ago. Unfortunately, my kids grew up without grandparents. They don't even send birthday cards... and they're AWESOME kids. Well, they're all technically adults now.

Tarzan By the way, my daughter showed me this video. She's an old soul and loves the 1930s, 40s and 50s.

@beethistlewinery6682 LOL. But people quit traveling September 4th because that's when gas prices go up. Lol
1
@beethistlewinery6682 Ah, that makes sense. Trying to prove he's still got his wits about him.

It took me a long time to discover this, but there is no objective evidence for any gods. There is so much in the Bible that isn't true, but we just assume it is. If you would ever consider looking into truth and facts, you might want to check out Richard Carrier and/or David Fitzgerald.

But were Hal, Lois, Malcolm, Reese, and Dewey invited?

@PreservationEnthusiast There's always one. 🙄 You're clearly displaying your ignorance about basic understanding of history and evolution.

Yeah and this was a great way to interact with the opposite sex. Good, clean fun.
