This is a good example of a really "suspicious" sounding 911 call of a totally innocent person. None of them have good communication skills (except for the brother and Alyssa), but that goes to show that blabbering doesn't always equal guilt.

Dawn is lying through her teeth. It's very obvious that she used James and then turned on him. To be so vindictive to plan your ex's murder, knowing it will hurt your children, is next level evil.

He explained that the DA decided to give her immunity in order to prosecute the shooter. It was the lesser of 2 evils. Without her testimony, there wouldn't have been enough evidence to prosecute anyone. She's guilty as sin, though. It sickens me to think of all she got away with. What a horrible person.

This was 2 years later. They were getting information from her. If she wasn't willing to testify against James, then neither of them would have been convicted.

@cwavt8849 That's not always the case. Oftentimes, one suspect in a group will be given a deal if they agree to testify against another party. In this case, the DA said he'd rather be able to at least get the shooter charged with the murder. Without her testimony, that couldn't happen.

@miap2122 Most people tend to think in black and white and do not view cases in a rational way. They often jump to assumptions instead of looking at all of the information. It's very frustrating.

James' mother is sketchy also. She knew a lot but didn't go to police about it. Maybe Dawn could have been charged if she had spoken up.

@deer105 That's why I said "suspicious" in quotation marks.

@amanda.dunwald85 I feel exactly the same way. I'm totally disgusted that she got away with it. She had James wrapped around her little finger.

Yeah, but Dawn got immunity even though she was behind the whole thing.

@caroleejohnson1553 Hence why the word "suspicious" was in quotation marks.

@Maruzzela-l1u You might want to reread my comment. I didn't say I agreed with that plan. I was just repeating the information that was given in the video. I'm sickened by the whole thing. If it had been up to me, I would have tried to prosecute her. However, there clearly wasn't enough solid evidence, especially considering how James' mother is.

Right? I can't believe no one mentioned that before you. That's crazy.

@flazenpinero Unfortunately, that's probably true. It's not common, but it does happen.
1
Huh? How so?

They have a job to do. If she had been guilty, you would have been mad if he hadn't questioned her like that.
1
@9babyblu Yeah, he said that, and I believe it. Because Dawn wanted custody of her daughter, and she knew that Melissa was much more responsible as a parent.

@LoveJoyPeace4612 I totally agree with you!! However, without her testimony, neither of them would have been convicted. Personally, I'd rather see her in prison, but it's not up to me. I don't know if you read any of my other comments. I was just stating what the DA said. I would have pushed to have her convicted, too. She got off way too easy and was the mastermind behind it all.

@bradenharris8718 Seriously. Where are the critical thinking skills?
