When I hear the tired rhetoric of blaming Labour I wonder how long it would take a competent government to fix things. Since they have had more than a decade, they should simply resign because of abject incompetence.
20
Key phrase: manufacturing consent. Aided and abetted by an oligarch media. Enough is enough.
20
If they are so confident that they represent the British people, why not call an election or hold a referendum? Perhaps he should define "illegal" and how asylum seekers can arrive legally. Why not start be reading the 1951 UN Convention on Refugees?
19
@nopants4259 True. And it seems sociopathy is the only characteristic required for appointment to the Tory cabinet.
19
Like a bloody menagerie. The one who should be expelled of course is the Convict, also known as the Crime Minister.
19
Braverman is quite a piece of work. A qualified lawyer who doesn't understand the law or flouts it for her populistic brand of fascism.
19
She admits people voted to level up and she deliberately acts to level down.
18
This woman excels in the density scale to achieve absolute opacity. Or in plainer language: as thick as two short planks. Starting this kind of scrutiny at home would be best: test and trace; PPE contracts; etc. After an alleged consultation, the channel that scrutinises them most is to be sold off.
18
And one of the most straight talking. Does it hurt?
18
Russia is returning to a world that Israel hasn't left. Such irony.
18
I guess if you promote someone beyond their competence, they are easier to control.
18
Wurzel Gummidge with an Eton hangover and a plummy accent to match.
17
@russellmathews3599 He's been offered so many workable options but has refused them all for fear of his backers. He should stay in his bunker and stop causing damage.
17
@nathaneddy502 even with the skills, would they get a platform? The media machine is intent on manufacturing consent.
17
She struggles to keep a straight face while spouting bollocks yet still exudes arrogance. Missing the first part of the process: the government sets the parameters for the pay review body. What's the point of a recruitment drive when we don't pay NHS staff properly? Shall we train them to move abroad?
17
Sunak sounds surprised that Labour has learned "spending needs to be paid for" when the Tories have borrowed more and paid back less since the second world war. Perhaps his own party need to learn that lesson.
17
What the speaker said at the end was alarming. It also showed the urgent need to clean up politics and to learn tolerance. The longer parliament continues as a house of lies with inadequate methods of redress; the longer that blame is shifted and innocent people are targeted, in misdirection, as an excuse; the longer that common enemies are created through rhetoric; then the risk of fuelling hatred - and even the threat of violence - seems inevitable. To make matters worse, we have an oligarch media, largely owned by non-UK tax payers, spouting hatred and shifting blame. There is no defence for putting politicians in physical danger. Yet with divisive rhetoric that fuels hatred, anger is understandable and even inevitable.
17
Richard and Prof Danny Blanchflower have joined together as the Mile End economists to show a better way for Labour. Starmer should listen and engage.
17
Tried to get the three tenors. Ended up with the three wazzocks.
16
@Dog boy is that a pathetic attempt at defence from your pseudonym account?
15
@@alexander-lc4dr So you haven't answered the question. Were you better or worse off?
15
@apollothirteen9236 Indeed. I don't argue otherwise at a personal level. Yet when that's the best option on offer and the real economy suffers, say, at the expense of share buy-backs. The system is far worse for society, and you are either comfortable in exploiting it or otherwise. The debate is about neoliberalism versus other systems. Depends on your attitude to greed and personal values. As for high IQs, our system doesn't reward on that measure. Many of the brightest use their talents for society.
15
If Raab can't answer her questions, who's the gormless one?
14
@woofpet Yes, there was always an element of greed, albeit tempered by a regard for society. Now greed is applauded by neoliberalism and inequality has accelerated.
13
Wonder if this will be on the BBC or MSM? Enough is most certainly enough.
13
A poignant and accurate summary. If Labour don't implement PR, the Tories will be back with more extreme cruelty. If Starmer gains power, he needs to grow a pair and embrace modern economics.
13
@BuIIetBiII Thus proving the point: a minority (43.6%) vote producing an 80 seat parliamentary majority. That's called elective dictatorship.
13
I hit the overseas development budget instead of taxing asset wealth for defence of assets. (Mostly owned by oligarchs.) The real meaning behind Starmer's words.
13
I can't resist comparing his oratory to that of our vacuous prime minister. But then, Zelensky was a comedian and comedians have to be poignant and concise with language. The Ukranian president is inspirational. His people deserve peace and freedom.
13
And it's my advisor's fault for not reminding me before every journey that I hadn't to break the speed limit. The moronic idiot defence.
13
@nikkihamilton4374No. It leaves the mess to Labour, as usual.
13
The Tories are the worst possible opposition because 6 months of new government is inevitably compared with 14 years of abject incompetence.
13
The Tories have never been a same option for anyone capable of critical thinking. Other than for the selfish or psychopathic.
12
Yes. To me, he is even worse than Thatcher. At least you knew what you were getting with her. "No such thing as society" and now we have a sociopathic prime minister.
12
Andy, I officially declare you a vacuous wazzock. Just like the person you continually excuse.
12
Many of us condone Churchill's actions because he was a man for the time: the kind of dirty b'stard we needed. Albeit a flawed character.
12
@evolassunglasses4673 Yes. Straight to the pockets of the few.
12
@diannemuhling7555 implementing the Jay report...sorting the Tory mess as usual.
12
There may be change: it will get worse with this scammer in the HofC
12
Good luck. Some of us value immigrants and many contribute so much to our society (except for Tory ministers, who ruin our country in most cases).
11
@exposingthepedoleft9463 they would need to be in power.
11
No accounting for intellectual laziness or stupidity.
11
Mick is pure class.
11
Are you awake, or do mindless bots sleep?
11
@andyforshaw8489 No. There you go again, Andy, blaming the messenger to divert from truth.
11
If restricting the families of students "is the biggest single measure" to reduce migration, what does that say about his competence? The little spiv who promised integrity, professionalism and accountability responds with lies, excusing his weak and incompetent governance.
11
@serraangel7465 No. Just over one decade: since 2010 after Tory austerity and the removal of bursaries.
11
No point Johnson looking in the mirror. The self-analysis of a narcissist is pointless.
11
@madguruJ So, Greens for you? Or just whataboutery?
11
Mhairi is one of the very best politicians in the UK. She obviously cares about people and wants to make a difference. Perhaps I can add to her description and say the opposite of Woke is a half-asleep arsehole.
