The UK was the 5th largest economy, but it's slipped since, and that slip is unavoidable in the face of competition from India, Indonesia, etc. Without the EU right now, Britain would be an isolated shithole like Russia, or, if Trump has his way, an open air trailer park like the red state backwaters his supporters live in.

  5.  @tobastron  Don't listen to this imbecile Simon John. He's talking about foreign nationals already settled where they live in the EU and the UK respectively. In the case of Brexit, which will end freedom of movement for EU citizens in the UK and UK citizens in the EU, you shall have to follow country-specific registration procedures when it comes to your status in a EU country as a Brit. Whether it's for tourism, business, etc, you'll now have to check the rules in the country you wish to stay in and legalize your status accordingly.
