  1. It does have the right to allow people to not suffer unnecessarily. That's one liberty which you religious fundamentalists would deny them, as with many other liberties that don't fit your feudal worldview. The government is there to protect and grant fundamental rights, not some assembly of troglodytes who promote things like the death penalty for abortion.
