  1. His parents are fundies and they were egged on by other fundies. It's definitely hard to conceive of child being in that state, but it would have been futile to keep him on life support, effectively brain dead. This is why it's important to have higher authorities that step in when irrationality takes over. These people treat their children like they're personal property and they practice whatever nutty religious teaching on their offspring. If you've heard about all sorts of abuse cases (like the one in California where that Evangelical couple kept their kids locked up in the basement), denial of vaccination, blood transfusions, etc., these are the kind of people who engage in them. The courts did the right thing.
