Buckingham Palace as its called now formerly Buckingham House named after the Duke of Buckingham, when it went up for sale was bought by think George III for his wife Queen Charlotte so she could escape court life, actually was built over the River Tyburn which still flows underneath it Though yeah is entirely traditional now the bearskins (do think they use synthetic material now but traditionally speaking they start from a brown bear in canada as a form of pest control), are taken from the French Imperial Guard where the Grenadiers got their name from (the only regiment to take its name from the enemy) is them who wore them which the ones for protecting Charles II defeated and mocked them, was to make them look more fearsome is why the wearing of them, reason for the red tunics is reds really difficult at a distance to see seperate people or something like that

Yeah mocking the French Imperial Guard, where the first footguards for the Monarch which was Charles II took their name from Grenadier (French for Grenade) their collar badge is a Grenade is the symbol of them, the other English guards regiment being the Coldstream that being for Cromwell though or what became for Cromwell (stems from him at least) are named after the towm of Coldstream very near Berwick-on-Tweed, which are right on the English/Scotland border, the Coldstream emblem is sort of the Garter emblem is essentially the George Cross when Edward III made St George the patron saint of the country in think was 1348 but that's if my memory serves me correctly (would make Edward III, Edward I's Grandson) Think its the 1st Battalion of the Coldstream and know for a fact No 7 Company of the Coldstream by comparison to Nijmegan company of the Grenadiers, then there's the Welsh, Scots and Irish as well (5 regiments make them all up) was well as 7 military bands in Trooping The Colour

The reality with the Bearskins (for the Monarchs Footguards of which are made up of 5 regiments half of their annual service is ceremonial and then the rest is operational) was to really mock the French, their Imperial Guard named The Grenadiers which is where one of the regiments directly gets its name the Grenadiers French for grenade should be pretty obvious really. Is their collar badge as well. Is really called Sentry duty, protecting somewhere from unauthorised access aka Stag as its called in the Brit Army at least "The UK guards rifle..tho old. Are loaded. If they must shoot you.they can and because they are the queens guard. Their will be no charges " No they dont, only very rarely is only when there's some kind of known threat do they ever have live ammunition, is pretty much most of the time just an empty mag, they by law have to follow rules of engagement usually is just the police if anything gets more serious There's even a hut behind the gates of Buckingham Palace where the Met are as well, when someone has some form of invitation to enter either by foot or by car they go over everything (must have some form of official photographic ID to prove who you are).

They have least once used more recently synthetic but before then they start off as the coat of a Canadian Brown bear as a form of pest control, tradtionally speaking really is to mock the French, when defeating the French Imperial Guard (who were called Grenadiers, or Grenadier which is French of course for Grenade. Is the name of the 1st Footguards for the Monarch the oldest of them were for Charles II. By comparison the 2nd one was the Coldstream named after the town of Coldstream right on the Scottish/English border near Berwick which was for essentially Cromwell are the oldest regiment in the army are the two English footguard regiments and then there's the Scots, Irish and Welsh as well
