There's no course of any kind that will automatically give one a professorship, they simply don't exist they must be awarded for the work done on say a thesis or some form of research that has substantial standing, sometimes lower ranks of professors exist but mostly confined to the likes of the States. A professor title is the most senior rank of a field really literally meaning one who professes, is at the height of their disciplined research field. Unlike a Ph.D for example when you do bit of research with the sole intention of being awarded with a Ph.D. (like that of any lower ranked award) that won't happen with a professorship title being awarded, it doesn't even really need a Ph.D. to be gained before one can be awarded but its incredibly rare (infact I've personally never heard of any instances of when that's happened). When he said about a phone exam or whatever he said lol, heard of one Ph.D. supervisor Dr Neil who was my sister supervisor with another Ph.D. student he was meant to be conducting the viva for, only it took him a hugely long time to get to it, by that time the place had closed, so they ended up doing hers in a pub haha!
