It's not about endless profit, 80% of landlords are private people who are being forced to raise rents do to ever increasing property taxes. If you want cheaper rent stop voting to raise property taxes for every government pet project.

@BleedForTheWorld You don't have a clue! The people are being used as pawns. You can't ask for rent not to be raised but property taxes, maintenance costs, and insurance is constantly increasing. When you run the mom and pop landlords out of the game you're going to really have issues. No one is playing here!

@ChetHanks-eh1md No what I'm saying is there are several costs associated with rental housing. Taxes are just one of therm. Don't ask landlords to carry the burden of providing housing on their backs. Eventually there will be no housing to rent if this keeps up. Landlords are dangerously close to the edge. You're thinking about the blackrocks of the world I'm talking about mom and pop landlords. You don't want all rentals controlled by corporations.

If properties are that cheap where you live why haven't you bought one? Puts an end to the landlord doesn't it.

@WhalesArePeopleToo I know why people don't buy houses. The point I'm trying to make is everyone knows how hard it is to buy a house but they expect landlords to keep the price of their houses low so that you can be comfortable. I've been at this a long time.

@chrism8180 That number 3000 dollars is extremely low. I don't think you saw the right number. My old home in the hood had higher taxes than that. What city and state are we talking about? I don't know of anyone in a single family home with taxes that low.

@BleedForTheWorld I can't believe how many people are on here crying. Man up and make a change if you're not happy with your housing situation. No one can make you rent a property, if you don't want to. In America this is a capitalist society, companies do what makes sense to them financially. This is why the government shut down most of the projects because they don't make sense financially.

@Hashingit You sound crazy! I'm a licensed realtor/licensed builder/master electrician, real estate is what I do. These corporations are buying less than 7% of available properties. Don't make excuses for not owning a home just figure out what is wrong whether it's credit, income, or whatever. Then make the necessary changes to own your own home. Every tenant in my rentals has been offered the opportunity to buy the property at some point and only 1 has taken me up on the offer. I know what's happening out here. People want to live in a good home for the cheap! Just can't happen anymore. So try that sad story on someone else, I'm the person moving the world of real estate, I'm leading the charge. Nothing has passed me by.

@holdenmuganda97 Be for real, I'm a realtor and there are plenty of properties for sale. Rental properties are necessary because everyone is not in a position to own a property. Landlords do not own all of the properties. If you really wanted to buy a property you would have bought one.

@joshuaortiz2031 Well that's not true, I own 2 properties one of which I live in. I too am a veteran and used my VA benefits to buy my primary home. You can't afford anything because you don't make enough money or your credit isn't good enough. The VA loan doesn't even require a down payment or for you to pay PMI so I don't know what your issues are but I can imagine.

@holdenmuganda97 The housing supply is increasing rapidly. The lack of supply comes from the government placing so many restrictions on builders that they don't want to build in certain areas. My second and third properties are taxed more heavily that's not a new concept. Yet people still want to say it's the landlord's fault they don't own a home. Well, it isn't, most people don't want to own a home because it is a huge responsibility, lots of money. It's not the landlord's fault.

@TheTillmanSneakerReview No CAP here all facts! If most Americans can't afford a home, then you should understand how difficult it is for the mom and pop landlord to provide housing. You want to blame the landlord for raising rents when everywhere we look we are being asked to pay more and more. If you don't like the landlord your only option is to buy your own home.

For those folks in society who are mentally and physically damaged we should help them. For those who are able bodied, they gotta get for themselves. Each answer is different for each individual on how they achieve it.

@skyisreallyhigh3333 So what happens to the people who can't afford to buy a property? Do we leave them on the streets? The government doesn't have the ability to provide housing for those in need. If everyone only owned one property the streets would be flooded with homeless people.

What needs to happen is the people need to stop voting to raise property taxes to pay for every damn thing. The next time you are presented with a proposal on the ballot to raise property taxes, VOTE NO! Seniors are being forced out of their properties because cities and states are raising property taxes beyond their ability to pay after owning their homes for over 30 years. People believe that because they don't own property the increased property taxes won't affect them, WRONG! You're the first people affected. No residential property should ever be used as a piggy bank for government projects. Think about it people! This is the main reason why rent is so damn high!

@lights_utopia1130 I only know one thing, I was raised in the ghetto, grew up on government assistance from time to time. Everyone has an excuse for not succeeding in life, if you let those excuses stop you, you will never get what you want out of life. I truly believe that if I can do it anyone can. It's up to you to figure it out, I'm not privileged quite the opposite, I'm just willing to do whatever it takes to win, and some folks are not.

@el_chavez Your home should never have been a piggy bank to pay for anything. There are better ways to pay for roads such as gas taxes. Leave the homes out of it. There is more than enough land to start new communities and they can be zoned anyway you want.

@kimilsungthefirst6840 I have two real jobs. I don't just collect money, I made an investment. You don't tell people who are invested in the stock market that they can't collect money because they own a stock. How about you get another job instead of crying about the rent being to high. If you don't like renting buy a house.

@AfterHoursBartender The reason that communism failed is no one is motivated to work hard when all of your efforts go to benefit the state. At least with capitalism if I work hard and continue to educate myself I will reap some kind of a reward. I choose capitalism. What some of these folks want is for the landlord to not make money so that they can live in a nice home at a cheap price. The state is responsible for providing affordable housing not the mom and pop landlord. I learned a long time ago that no one is going to save me, but me!

@diarian No one is stopping you from buying a home. Just understand there are thousands of people who don't want to own a home so where do they go to live if there are no landlords? The government is not equipped to manage and maintain 1000s of properties. You need landlords whether you like it or not.

@slimdangerous1928 There are so many variables to that question. Cost of bldg., interest rate of loan for the bldg., insurance costs in the area, city/state regulations, maintenance costs, and so much more. Generally speaking, most landlords would like at least a 5% return on their investment, 5% of 200K is 10K. Can you live on 10K a year? Probably not! That's if everything goes according to plan, all it takes is 1-2 tenants to not pay for 6+ months and now you have to hire an attorney to evict them at 500/hr. You have no profit for the year and if they decide to trash the place you're really screwed. Everyone thinks that landlords are these rich fat cats. Every landlord I know has a 40+ hour job and half of them would not be landlords if they knew in advanced how jacked up the system is. You complain about rent as though the landlord is deliberately screwing you, we're not we are barely making it and C19 really screwed us.

@ChetHanks-eh1md You have no idea what you're talking about, What about the tenant who destroys the property and you have to hire an attorney to evict them. That cost isn't in the rent.

@Rgrinkleson It's done for whatever reason the landlord says. It's his property he can do what he wants. He may have discovered that he's renting the property out for to low of a price now he wants to raise the rent, he has a right to do that. You have the right to decline his price increase and move. This is America!

@salzigkid Of course I do, but you aren't going to destroy my property and think that you're going to get away without suffering the consequences. I follow through on all judgements as well as reporting that tenant to the tenant database in order to warn all landlords to look out for this bum!

@lights_utopia1130 Wrong again! I don't know the right people and I definitely wasn't in the right places. I simply set out to do something, educated myself on the process and did it. Did it wrong, came back and did it again. Did it wrong again, got some more education and finally did it right. To me too many people expect to go right to the top and it doesn't work like that. If you're waiting on the government or somebody to pass a law to save you, you're doomed it's a cold world out here and it's getting colder by the minute.

@sammie16508 I state experiences. Nothing to do with pride, my username is what it is. I'm not trying to convince anyone to do anything simply put if people are expecting politicians to take care of them they are playing a losing game. This victim mentality that the landlord is the reason for all my problems is crazy. Landlords have a right to make a profit just like every other industry. Cars, food, utilities, clothing and health care prices have increased more than housing but no one is saying cancel car dealerships or cancel the utility companies.

@ChetHanks-eh1md Destructive tenants are a part of the equation you're foolish if you don't factor that into the equation. Your rent shouldn't double in 30 days, I've never done that. The only thing I can think of is your rent was way below market value or the property was acquired by new ownership. The bottom line is, ownership is the key, when you own it you can do what you want . I can't speak for the owner of your property you have to ask him why. Maybe he just wanted to get rid of you because he considers you a problem tenant, IDK!

@xian4812 6000 a year is 500/month, I don't think you can speak for every landlord. What if the mortgage payment is 1200/month now we're at 1700/month. I don't get your point. Everything matters, you don't know what's hurting the landlord.

@ChetHanks-eh1md LOL I've had the same tenants for 5+ years so I'm good. You might want to admit that you're a leech tenant who doesn't want to pay rent. I bet that if I did a background check on you, you've been evicted before. LOL! But that's okay my tenants are great I provide great housing at a reasonable price and they appreciate that. I hope they stay another 55 years.

@Rgrinkleson Maybe or maybe not but I'm sure the owner has his/her reasons. The best thing for the tenants to do is to try and become home owners so that they aren't subjected to those types of price increases. You can't make someone do what you want them to do.

@chrism8180 Many landlords, I manage other landlord's properties as well. When I screen my tenants I look for only the best. Some of my landlord buddies don't follow my lead so they get stuck with sub-par tenants and then they get screwed. You should come for a ride-a-long with me some day.

@lionedheart That's not true only about 8% of homes are being bought by corporations. Most big corporations are building there own rental communities, It's much cheaper and they have total control. If people want to buy a house they can.

@lt3074 Yes it is easier said than done but it can be done. My first home was a horrible fixer upper but I bought what I could afford and got to work. It took me 5 years to fix it up the way I wanted it. Most people want to move into a plush home right away and if they can't do that they say they can't afford a home.

@lionedheart Wrong They are still building and the cost of supplies have come back down. It's difficult to build affordable housing because of government regulation. My first home was a horrible fixer upper it took me 5 years to fix it up. Most folks aren't willing to do that and want a perfect house now. Because they can't afford the house they want they say they can't afford a house. You must crawl before you walk.

@geomcc39 I really wish you could come and spend a week with me. So many tenants think that it's ok to destroy a property. The profit margin is so low. Landlords bend over backwards to keep a good tenant. I have remodeled kitchens, installed sheds, and painted rooms to keep my good tenants. But, if you destroy my property and we aren't talking normal wear and tear but abuse of course a landlord would expect you to pay for that repair.

I see Hispanics, Nigerians, Asians, middle easterners and Indians working with family and friends to achieve financial success and stability. I guess you're too good to work with anyone hence no home ownership for you. I collaborate with several landlords and investors to purchase properties and build generational wealth. I don't know why you're assuming that we're individuals who made it to the top by ourselves. Collaboration is the key you should try it rather than making excuses.

Every business in America operates under this principle or they don't operate for long. If landlords didn't exist the homeless population would quadruple over night. I consider that a huge value to society. Congratulations on buying a home.

@GotPoopInMySoup Tenants aren't the main bread winner of my household. My properties are doing what they are supposed to do, if a tenant doesn't want to be there I will always cancel the lease. Some people want to blame others when life starts to get tough. You will never achieve your goals in life until you are willing to accept responsibility for all of your decisions. The world doesn't owe you understanding or sympathy.

@Rage_Resist_Rebel You can never rely on the government, that's mistake number one. They are bought and paid for. You can only rely on yourself. We know what happened when the government was in charge of housing (projects) in the 60s 70s and 80s. No one is coming to rescue you.

@lionedheart I won't be angry, and of course it's my job to pay my mortgage. It's your job to pay rent. It's not my job to supply housing to those people who don't qualify. That's the government's job. Most properties that are AirBNB aren't affordable to most people anyway and that number is so small it won't have an impact on available housing. The government can regulate all it wants, but it can't regulate a person or a company's private decisions. If it's not profitable to be a landlord anymore then there will be even fewer properties available. Don't worry we will have a bunch of projects owned by the government for people to live in. We know what happened the last time we tried this experiment.
