Most of what is claimed to be Christianity and actual Christianity are two different things, if it did not come from Jesus it's not Christian, the majority of Christianity Today was developed by other people

They did not just defend slavery, they came into existence because of it, the Civil War was the final split between northern and southern baptist churches, and it's interesting that they never tried to reconcile, I guess it's hard when you're on the wrong side of a losing Civil War and on the wrong side of history and you're not mature enough to admit you lost, kind of reminds me of some other guy that's been in the news lately that does not deserve to have his name be mentioned...

@juliachildress2943 Paul was a teacher, and not a bad teacher but at best he was essentially a rabbi and his opinions were not binding in any form, in other words, if it did not come straight from Jesus it's Up For Debate

@seeker4wisdom I don't know what a nine Mark church is but I'll look it up, I have seen examples of what you're talkin about however, I saw a news clip of an elderly woman that had been a Sunday school teacher for 20 years, she started having health issues and missed a few Sundays and missed a few tithes and she was thrown out of the congregation... she gave a huge part of her life to that church and they effectively abandoned her, makes them look more like a cult than a church

Actually any religion over a certain income level should not have tax-exempt status anyway because they run it as a for-profit business, also it's not the place of the government to monitor religion,

@seeker4wisdom also it's only the purpose of the government to determine whether something is a legitimate religion and therefore eligible for tax exemption, internal issues such as Doctrine and denominational disputes are not the business of the federal government and have nothing to do with tax-exempt status, of course we understand this because we're not "in bread" 😂

As a former Baptist turned agnostic atheist I can somewhat agree with that statement but I also have to say that a snobby atheist is just as irritating as a bible thumper, it's like arguing over Pepsi and Coke, drink Pepsi if you like but don't tell me that it's better because I don't believe that ( same analogy can also be applied to gender politics)

And that goes for a lot of churches, Baptist Churches independent churches and the papacy, I think that's when Christianity ceased being persecuted they fell into the Trap others have fell into and decided to become of the persecutors themselves, right now that happens to be directed at women

@yourin8er not to be that guy but that was written by another guy, a teacher, a human, it didn't come from God so it's not authoritative, it was basically just the opinion of a rabbi, and I use that term because I'm approaching it from the point of you they would have, even Jesus was referred to as Rabbi by some people

@yourin8er the word suffer means permitted in this context, so all he's saying is that he does not permit a woman to hold authoritative positions in his church, at most is a suggestion, he does not explicitly forbid it, so outside of the walls of his own congregation it's just an opinion...

You can't quote Paul because he was talkin in a letter of Correspondence to a church he helped to start, he was not speaking to all of Christianity and he does not have that Authority anyway, if you're going to say it came from the Old Testament... Well I'm not Jewish to Jewish law does not apply to me .. show me where Jesus said it...

@初春-y2n you're referencing an early church leader, he was just a man and not Divine in anyway, giving his personal opinion in a letter of Correspondence to a church he helped found, it was not a directive to the entire church, the Epistles were what we would today call inter-office memos, they're not holy writings of any kind, they are for historical context, he was simply saying what he would do in that situation... if it didn't come from Jesus it's not Christian

That never seemed that radical to me, I could totally understand someone salvation being taken away if they became a mess murderer, just like I can see somebody rejected if they try to accept Christ on their deathbed after being a criminal their entire life, IF God is all-powerful and he makes all the rules he can always just change his mind😂

Now that don't fly with me, I don't even see the basis for tax-exempt status in the first place, having a church pay their fair share is not religious oppression, and any church that can afford to give their preacher-man a new Cadillac can definitely afford taxes

@valerieprice1745 again it's not the place of goat government to decide who is or is not following the teachings of a religious figure, it is a clear violation of the First Amendment because they would be taking sides in a religious situation... furthermore not only is it not up to our government it's not up to you or me to say what is or is not a Christian... 2000 years of history proves that there is no single Authority on Earth to say what is or is not Christian, lots of people much more educated and pious than either of us have not been able to come to a consensus, my view is if Christianity is a personal relationship between a person and their God and it's nobody else's business what they believe, whatever's on the other side we can only guess, it's entirely possible then Heaven won't be anything like what we imagined it to be, and there's nothing that explicitly says non-christians will not be there,... I already know that you cannot think for yourself and will answer by quoting a Bible verse, I already know which verse you will quote and you're wrong

@ga6589 personally I have never thought it should be approached in that manner, I like the approach of the kairite Jews ( pretty sure I misspelled.) They think that a particular verse only applies in the context in which it was written and that's how I always approached Bible studies,

I also never said Jesus never had a female Apostle so I don't know where that came from, if someone is a positive impact on the lives of others they should not be kept from doing that because of what's between their legs, and some writings by a bunch of guys and dresses and sandals thousands of years ago doesn't justify Prejudice like that, that would be exactly the same as refusing a blood transfusion from someone of a different skin color or religion... so you can rant and Rave all you want about how it's a sin and I can mock and scoff at you all I want, and The World Keeps spinning... I'm okay with that, why aren't you?
