Yes, the Nazis were absolutely downplaying their antisemitism in the 30's. I'm sorry, but this is the plain truth. There is not the speck of a doubt that the German population of the 30's was bathed in a very barbaric and horrendous antisemitic culture--and yes, they ended up backing Hitler and his genocide later on--, but, in the 30's, Nazi ideology often went further than what the average German thought regarding Jewish people; therefore, the way the Nazis chose to speak about the "Jewish problem" (as they referred to it) was important and much varied depending on their crowd. Nazi aficionados of the first hour were convinced genocidal monsters whom nothing could scare off,--and their loyalty was not to be doubted--, but to appeal to the general public, the Nazi's rhetoric had to change and soften a tad, and instead of focusing on questions regarding race and German supremacy, they mostly spoke about the economy and topics most German would agree with.
Douglas ignoring that shows how much he doesn't know about that crazy period of our history, hence, (and according to his own logic,) Douglas should not speak about that period of our history...
