It is more like he used to talk to very uneducated persons, (like kids) and by inertia keep trying to guess what level of knowledge are persons in front of monitors, maybe many miles away, without real time feedback (like acrual person facial expression "I get it, please continue"). In other words, like topology mathematican trying to explain basics of group theory to beginners, he literally have no idea how to explain obvious things after spending years deep in extreme complex matters.
