The government didn't get his fortune, he put a huge amount of it into a medical foundation while he was living and won a famous court case that kept it AWAY from the government. The rest of his fortune was split between his cousins. The government got the usual inheritance tax which was higher then than it is today, but to cry about his fortune going to the government and making you saddy waddy is just nonsense.
