Surprising topic for 2024. I have never once heard an American talk about Kennedy getting his German wrong in that speech. Not one time. He wasn't auditioning to be a German tutor, he was making a political point. That point was made. He went home. Successful speech. This must be a bigger deal to Germans than Americans ... I doubt there are many Americans Feli's age who have even heard of this speech, or even know where Berlin is on the map, or even remember why Germany and Berlin itself were divided, or could tell you which side of the east/west divide Berlin found itself. I wanna say or even remember that Kennedy was President, but they probably do have some historical knowledge of Jackie Kennedy and assume she had a husband somewhere in the mix.
