@patsmith5947 ..ok that protonix is gonna decrease the nutrients you are supposed to absorb. Your body had become slightly habituated to it so if you stop the P, you will have rebound higher stomach acid. Its a trap. The LES is muscular and it's out of balance. Most likely too tense and then because of that it becomes fatigued from tension so it doesn't work right all the time. You gotta have a healthy lifestyle to cure it. Sleeping and exercise especially. And then very slowly taper off the P so you can get all your nutrients. Also the P is contributing to perpetuating the reflux because it also decreases absorption of magnesium the relaxing mineral. I know all of this because I was a pharmaceutical victim similar to your case. The GI doctor had me taking double dose nexium plus OTC stuff.
