I once saw footage from Afghanistan of an A-10 making a gun attack at dusk. Came rolling over the mountain ridge, rolling in on target and fired. You could see the flames from the gun spitting many feet out of the plane in the dark. Looked like a fire breathing dragon from a fantasy movie. Wish I could find that footage again.

@troytanner4369 The planes can easily handle the increased loads, and if not, can be designed to do so.

@ipant1056 The engineers program in the limits into the computer. the engineers know full well the maneuvering limits of the aircraft when they designed it. They also do destructive testing, by taking components to failure to confirm their calculations. The machine knows the limits better than the pilot does. Modern US fighters (gen 4 and 5) already limit the controls to prevent pilots from exceeding limitations of the aircraft. In fact, modern US fighter pilots have lost the Feel for the aircraft like old school pilots who never had fly-by-wire. These new pilots are getting to the point of just telling the aircraft what to do with no regard for limits and the aircraft does what it needs to to make it happen without exceeding limits.

the "carriers" the US lost at Leyte, were Escort Carriers. Literally converted transports. No armor, added a flight deck and hangar.

FYI, if it was a truck bomb, the truck was coming from Russia

I choose F-16 every time over Mig 29

@adamb8317 I'll have to remember that (marines as shock troops tip of the spear). Every mission I did in Iraq and Afghanistan, the Marines were behind me. I was in the Army, and we cleared the way for the Marines to follow.

they disbanded after the Revolution because they wanted it to be a 100% Militia-based navy. but they learned that you have to be able to protect your coasts and merchant shipping. You can't maintain training and leadership standards and experience that way, nor could you activate ships fast enough to respond to immediate threats.

one video shows possible evidence of a boat bomb, and we've seen Ukraine use such drone suicide boats already.

@Jeremiah90526 my point was they were dirt cheap, and just saying we lost carriers doesn't really give proper context.
2
@Jeremiah90526 lol, I think I read about that in Last Stand of the Tin Can Sailors. Soldiers come up with some pretty creative names and such in combat.

the cars wont be death traps. We didn't have ABS, power steering, or airbags when i was growing up either.

@mach1553 I don't think it was a truck bomb from all the footage I've seen, but something to consider depending upon how it was destroyed.

Ukraine: destroys strategically important bridge nobody thought they could hit yet, and that Russia said was heavily defended. Russia: retaliates by destroying an apartment building complex with no military value. This is why Russia is going to lose, and why they've been losing since day 1.

So much impressive and crucial US Navy history inevitably is being glossed over here. But lots of ground to cover.

First use of a submarine in war was the American Turtle in the Revolution.

Lexington, Saratoga, Ranger, Enterprise, Hornet, Yorktown. US had more than 3 carriers when pearl harbor occurred, and the first Essex class carriers were also already under construction.

this video is so wildly innacurate. The Japanese navy was obliterated. The US Navy finished WW2 with over 6000 ships in service.
1
Prior to WW2, the US didn't maintain a full-time army. We were largely militia-based. After WW2, we had to continue to maintain the standing army to enforce the peace. But the US is still meant to be a militia-based military, and the US military has been shrinking slowly over time.

Americans have always fought with an inner desire to remain uninvolved in foreign affairs. Sometimes the imperialist minded folks were in charge, but often the isolationist mindset held sway.

russia isn't crossing the bridge, becasue they have no supplies to send across even if they did.

it was not about Matching tech, it was about Superiority. You don't strive to fight a Fair war, you strive to fight an Unfair war with your side having the unfair advantage.

it wasn't a TB2 that destroyed that stuff on snake island, it was Zeus and his lightning bolts. Even the gods are against russia.

Look at the size of the US Navy at the end of WW2. Also, notice the size of the US invasion fleet for Japan, had Japan not surrendered.
