@danstory4286 irony is Toyota proved it can still be done with that utility truck they made for Thailand for what, $12k.

similar here. Most I ever spent on a car was $8k. Current car is 20yrs old, current truck is 32yrs old. Both in great condition.

@BobJones-nf2fh That's why I bought the Buick when I came across it. i knew how dependable and reliable they are.

My car is 20yrs old and still looks great and everything works, and this is the newest car I've ever owned. My truck is 32yrs old and also looks great and works great. Just take care of them. Fix things. Be proactive on maintenance (it's actually cheaper to be proactive than reactive). Don't drive them hard.

@tomschmidt381 speak for yourself. Never bought a new care in my life. the money I save by not having to deal with depreciation more than pays for what few repairs I've ever had to perform on any car I've ever owned. My Dad taught me a rule many decades ago, that for every $1k you spend (purchase price and maintenance), it should last you 1yr. I've exceeded that metric with every car/truck I've owned. Between every car/truck I've ever owned, I spent an average of $4,250 on them to buy them. And only 2 of them have I had to put more than $1k in repair into them. And the shortest I've owned a vehicle was 6yrs, and that was my first vehicle, and cheapest in terms of both purchase price and maintenance. All my vehicles were used predominantly in the Rust Belt. My two current vehicles are 20yrs old and 32yrs old and both have very little rust and in great working order. I could sell both of them right now for more than I paid for them.

Toyota built an entire utility pickup for asian markets that cost less than the markup on the tacoma.
