  1. really should have summarized their reports in a scatterplot graph, time vs depth, comparing normal to what they actually did. show people if their descent was accelerating or slowing, etc.

  2. as a helicopter and airplane pilot, I never fully trust ATC. Anytime I get into busy airspace I'm keeping track of traffic myself. and I'll make adjustments to my speed, altitude, and position according to what is going on to avoid conflicts. Many times It has helped avoid a conflict and left me in a good position when ATC was distracted or overwhelmed. My local ATC loves me though because they know I'm paying attention. Had I been the helicopter pilot, I'd have intentionally proceeded with EXTREME caution and adjusted the flight as needed to be one hundred percent certain of no conflict. In fact, just a few weeks ago at an untowered airport I called out two other planes that were landing on intersecting runways and got the one to go-around. Had to get on the radio and tell the planes to deconflict.
