  1. given that the aircraft could not repeat its speed over 485mph, and the fact the engine failed after only 10hrs due to apparently being pushed beyond its limits to break 500mph, the 505mph speed does NOT COUNT.

  2. P-47 was not that competitive in a dogfight at low altitudes. Even the P-40 was faster and more maneuverable down low.
