@joachimhupe4018 good point. Just look at US education system. We spend more than anyone by far, yet get worse performance year after year. The problem was Never lack of money, it was the takeover of bad ideas that people are finally noticing. I can provide a far superior education to kids and college students on a miniscule budget compared to what is being spent.

@joachimhupe4018 Money helps, no doubt, but it's not everything. Money alone can't buy innovation, i see it all the time in engineering.

It's actually not uncommon for military competitions to result in two good designs (F-22 vs YF-23, F-4 vs F8U3, F-16 vs YF-17, F-15E vs F-16XL). so not surprising that either would have resulted in a good tank if given time to improve the designs and work out any remaining bugs in the design (they are still just prototypes at that point after all).

An Army Deuce and a Half can do that too, and it doesn't have a turbine. Diesel engines and jet engines basically run on the same fuel. In aviation, there is no distinction between jet or diesel, all run Jet A. The US military already basically runs all its vehicles on the same exact fuels. Jets, helicopters, trucks, tanks, ships, even multi-fuel dirt bikes...

@chubbymoth5810 The appropriate level of zeal can defeat anything. If the opponent isn't as motivated, no tech advantage will save them. No tank, not even the M1 will Ever be invincible. That is not a dig on the M1, but rather a tale of the importance of having motivated soldiers. I was in a unit in the US Army that excelled at motivation, and we defeated everything thrown at us, training or in combat. We took everything as a personal challenge, and when someone said we couldn't do something, well, we just tried harder to prove them wrong. People focus on tech and ignore the human element.

@joachimhupe4018 It's not really the money. Americans are extremely competitive by nature. Even without a budget, we have created amazing things.

@joachimhupe4018 Not sure what you mean by that. Your wording is confusing.
