yes, cut down the trees to save the planet.......
18
@xeridea Yes, but like the new housing developments near me, they cut down a whole forest of trees to build cookie cutter duplexes. You may not have cut the tree personally, but that demand drives developers to cut the trees before you buy the place.

@MrYellowwrench fully comprehend. but I'm thinking and speaking at a higher level. Bigger picture.

@xeridea "Not sure your point. How do you propose building a house without land?" now your making strawman arguments. When did I Ever say that? You either cannot read, or you are deliberately misrepresenting what I clearly said in writing.

I prefer physical buttons and knobs I can find in the dark and without looking away from the road.

@xeridea "You said land needed cleared to build new houses." no I did not. "People need houses to live" this is not true. "Where there are less trees tends to be dryer places with other challenges, such as pumping water long distances" not the case at all where I live. They clear every last tree, even when there are football fields between houses. They turn the land into a barren wasteland of over-irrigated and overfertilized grass. One of the rainiest places on earth. if we were lower latitude it would be a tropical rain forest. The fact you didn't get my point in the first comment says a lot (and you weren't teh only one who didn't get it). It shows how misguided people are regarding "environmentalism", and how little they actually know about how the environment actually works.

@xeridea "A field of grass isn't a "barren wasteland", it is a field of grass. If it was cleared, it is likely going to be used at some point, because it is expensive to clear land for no reason. I don't see the point in then mindlessly, and without merit then go on to attack my intelligence." you clearly don't know much about this topic do you? I made my point in teh first comment. if you still can't figure it out after everything, there is no point in me wasting more of my time on you.

Combine these with more and more efficient buildings and infrastructure and they are perfect. For now start using them to power hospitals, military installations, emergency services, critical infrastructure, etc. Then use larger Thorium reactors for larger needs, and reuse the spent SMR fuel in the Thorium reactors.

these examples of bad predictions are famous in history. I've know many of these examples and more since I was a kid, many well before the age of the internet. Doesn't take much effort to find these examples and more.

just because some things are debunked and then go on to be successful, does not mean everything will follow that trend. Claiming historical precedent does not invalidate people's criticisms. Science and facts do. people have legit criticisms of things like wind farms, EVs, climate alarmism, and more.

Imagine a combination of improved rechargeable structural batteries, combined with replaceable aluminum air batteries, for extended range ability. Short trip but need more internal storage (running to the hardware store to pick up materials for a home renovation project)? Leave the Aluminum Air battery pack at home. Need to make a long distance road trip? Throw in one of those Aluminum Air batteries to boost your range. Now add solar recharging ability. Even if only small recharge, every little bit helps. Nickle and diming energy solutions together.

SMR nuclear......problem solved

AC is for weak people who can't adapt

Running out of charge is not different than running out of gas. Instead of a tow, why not have the tow truck bring you another battery? If batteries were that easy to swap out and cheap enough, it would be faster than recharging, and no different than stopping at a gas station to get gas. Yes, infrastructure would need to be their to support the distribution and recycling of the batterie, but this is a viable solution to consider. And with energy densities like that, it makes more sense for airplanes. Airplanes essentially fly from gas station to gas station (airports), so maybe the best first implementation of this technology is on airplanes?

peer review isn't a guarantee. most peer reviewed work is still wrong. The only real proof is in building it and getting results outside of the lab.

Rainwater collection and grey water recycling systems could also be promoted to offset the water issue.

why grow algae in tanks? just put a harvester in many lakes and collect the algae.

Lack of grid energy capacity is another issue. Lack of supporting infrastructure is another issue. Lack of a used EV car market is another issue. Right to Repair is another issue. I'm not against EVs, but people push them without acknowledging the many issues to overcome for true widespread adoption to happen.

Why do i need a smart home? Anything you put on the internet is vulnerable. Security is an illusion. I can see the appeal, but it's not necessary. Lest thing I want is my house not doing what it's told. Introducing software to something that isn't broken and doesn't need it is asking for problems.

they keep trying to bring them back, but they just keep failing. the new supersonic transports are more likely to succeed than these. Don't get me wrong, I like airships and see applications for them, but not in a big way. Too many issues and limitations with airships in reality.

30+ yrs to pay off is no good if the grid and gov passes laws to charge those who have solar. so even if you're net zero, you still end up paying fees and taxes to the grid
