@LetoDK every pilot should have personal minimums (guidelines) Regardless of company guidelines, even if the personal and corporate guidelines are teh same. As Todd points out, he also may not be a commercial pilot.

7:00 that is most definitely NOT induced drag. so tired of these BS lazy attempts at explaining what induced drag is. it's not rocket science yet less than 5 pilots I've ever met had any clue what it actually was.

this is why i hate airline flying. lack of basic airmanship and lack of ability to fly a visual approach to any airport. procedures and approaches to a fault. I see it far too often even in light aircraft. Too many pilots that can only fly procedures, but can't actually handle nonstandard situations or situations without procedures. A Captain should know their aircraft well enough to setup an improvised pattern with appropriate altitudes, speeds and distances to make it work.

12:40 you're describing Interference Drag, not Wave Drag. so many aerodynamic errors in this video.

Too high means diving late and carrying excess speed. Turning late means a steeper turn to make final and risk of overshooting the turn. Still blows my mind how many pilots flying airlines, even in the US, that don't seem to understand these simple concepts.

@michaelf.2449 everyone has to decide their own minimums based upon skill, experience, equipment and capabilities, and just making good decisions based on the possible weather conditions, and not choosing alternates likely to have the exact same weather.

airplanes have crashed flying into clouds. Thunderstorms. Had their wings ripped off. But I get your point.

@samomuransky4455 passengers can use their phones, in airplane mode. This is an FCC rule in the US, to prevent the phones from jamming cell towers. The FAA allows the use of phones. And pilots use Phones and Tablets in the Cockpit as standard procedure. The FAA leaves use of phones to the discretion of the pilot, they even wrote it into the regs.

the fact people don't understand this automatically, is a condemnation of their respective educations.

"Understand" means confirmation, and "confirm" means something else? wtf.

8:30 there are more ways to reduce induced drag than just those 2.

I wouldn't describe it as a "bullet" myself, more of a Jellybean.

keeps saying "79R"

Unstabilized approaches are safe and perfectly ok, if you know your aircraft and are proficient in it and don't exceed limitations. Problem is, most pilots don't know nearly as much as they think, and it amazes me how many professional pilots I meet who don't actually know how to Fly their plane. They only know how to fly procedures, and don't actually understand what is happening or why at a fundamental level. These pilots should Never fly an unstabilized approach since they don't know what they are doing or why outside established procedures. (keep in mind, you're still "stabilizing" prior to round out and touchdown, just not miles out. How long must you be stabilized prior to the round out to be safe? Depends on the skill and experience of the pilot, and good judgement is require as well.)
