  4. False. Government regulation will kill markets, and people will go back to heating with oil and heating homes by burning wood. Regulations increase costs, cause monopolies to form, and create stagnation. I'd rather buy an unsafe 100 year lasting light bulb than a 'safe' one that is owned by a monopoly.

  17. THE TRACK QUESTION: Doesn't the shape of the track matter? Centripetal motion? If the track was a circle, it would be a lot different than an oval, or square, or whatever. I think you have to bring in LOTS of calculus into the Kinematics to solve it. ...I'm not smart enough, lol.

The dangerous thing about the right to repair is it also increase cost to corporations....now, sure that sounds good, but what small time company is going to be able to afford that if they are just getting started? This regulation is affordable to big corporation, and can remove the rungs of a ladder keeping you or I to even enter the marketplace, even if we have a better idea. Be careful with regulations, they have unintended consequences. I'd rather have the option to buy a dangerous 100+ year old capable light-bulb with no safety stamps than to buy a cheaper one that lasts 15 years from a cartel that put my friends business ...out of business.

  20.  @freescape08  what is the subjective nature of 'qualifications'? A government regulatory body? If so, then the regulatory body could be bought by corporations/unions/non profits to push an agenda. This makes it so only a select few repair shops exist, and makes it impossible for competition, or cheaper parts. The problem with this video is it doesn't go into the economics enough, there is falloff on either side of government regulation that isn't talked about. Zero regulation is bad, but so is too much. For example: The Nuclear industry. NASA has some amazing tech at their disposal. Small decentralized safe 4th gen and 5th gen reactors, Nuclear batteries, etc. We don't. I'm not saying we need to allow people to build nuclear reactors in their home, but we do need to allow mom and pop tech companies the ability to innovate where other large bodies have become stagnant.

  21.  @JeffSmith03  we all talk about science, but fail to actually take part in it, and fail to notice when policy is being bought and sold. I'm not against regulation, but I hope that some day regulations have an expiry like patent laws. It is good to have a shuffle in industry to allow change and avoid stagnation.

  27. The 3x+1 doesn't work with negative numbers because negative numbers are just that, a different thing, different direction. They wouldn't act the same. Our math model is junk and missing LOTS of important things. Why stop with negative numbers, go into imaginary and polynomials subbing in for X.

  28. Sure, but NASA has also wasted a ton of money in the past. You have to be careful when you create gated institutions and centres as they often become stagnant. NASA fell behind with the space shuttle, and had insane amounts of employees. It is economically more efficient to have privatized small groups create and bid for contracts. Get it right, win the prize. There is no prize for bloated taxpayer funded groups as they rarely get defunded when they suck. I can cite examples here in Canada where our services turned into government union monopolies, as bad as heavy regulated super corporations.

  29.  @Never-mind1960  double? You pulled that arbitrarily out of thin air. Here is the thing, I've taken some physics classes and stats classes on my way into aerospace. NASA was terribly inefficient. When you have leeches forever collecting tax money, it doesn't automatically make them productive. More got done via deregulation of aerospace than the other way around.

  31.  @Never-mind1960  A private industry needs people to voluntarily give it money for goods and services. Unless, it's a government protected monopoly that gets bailed out, then I'd argue it's just another socialist system that is being bailed out constantly with leveraged taxpayer dollars.

Our improvements are not good enough to see the geometric unity. We need another breakthrough as similar to the creation of 'zero'. Where are the modern day Ramanujan's?
