I'm curious, everyone seems to try to grandstand here, but might I ask; Why is it someone elses responsibility to come to your rescue if you don't plan for these things to happen in your life? Ten years ago I had .42 cents to my name, now I'm about half a million. I didn't get there waiting for the state to bail me out with their debt based culture and unsustainable economics. Detroit is a perfect example of Socialism in America.

Well, if you want to get emotional over other people's lives, that is your choice. You as an individual can donate time and money to help people like I do, but advocating for government to be the solution is actually part of the problem. Nothing causes corporations and unions to monopolize faster than a bunch of new arbitrary laws that virtue signal. Edit: No, I blamed her for not being better prepared. 'Oh woe is me"....

No, you are being sarcastic. The root problem is you think its ok to virtue signal with other people's money. You can have a heart all you want, but if you are not personally doing anything about it, what good are you doing? I have similar conversations about this 'use of force' regarding many other situations. Tell me, if a drunk driver runs over some kids with the same type of car as yours, can I vote in a government to take your car away? If a bad doctor does malpractice, can I vote for a government to monopolize and socialize healthcare? If there is bad people in the world (and there always is), can I use other peoples money to fight them in forever court battles? Do you see where I am going with this? I am successful, and because of this I donate to Charity. I moved to the lowest tax location I could find, and because of this I sponsor two families overseas and host exchange students, as well as run a daycare. (among other things). The point is, If you start taxing me more, and regulating me more, you take away money that gives me the choice to help other people. So, I'll ask again, what are you doing, yourself, to solve the problem? Anyone can complain about what other people are going through, grandstand on the internet saying 'Sorry for being sympathetic and having a heart', but if you are not doing anything about it, you are part of the problem. Stop stealing from me and my friends, we are the job providers. If you keep attacking us, we'll just send more of our wealth overseas where people are less oppressive with their taxation/regulation regimes.

That tax assessment is the biggest form of corruption in Detroit. For those that bought houses for a few hundred dollars, yet the taxes still kill them. Tell me that isn't the exact same as being ruled by a monarchy and their lords of the Land? America escaped that did it not?

Proteus, where do you get those numbers? I'm pretty sure her place was assessed as a $50,000+ house. So she was paying taxes based on that, not what she paid for the place. That is what I gathered.

No they are not. Again, this is a strange sense of entitlement. Stop giving monopoly powers to the government. You'll die waiting with no options. Take the Canadian healthcare for example. 2nd last in the OECD and year long waits... yet bernie sanders claims its top notch.

People don't realize that when you have a huge government sector with lots of government jobs, that its unsustainable because it lives off the extortion of the private sector. At the very least there should be some balance. Detroit is a perfect example of a place that through that democracy came before the individual right to have a better life, and because of that, people voted for a bunch of 'glorious' programs that couldn't fund themselves.
