@13:00 maybe you're not aware since you primarily live in Japan but Canada changed its employment laws. It's no longer legal to pay waiter/waitresses minimum wage they get paid the same as all other employees so it's not necessary to ask for tips. Ironically because Canadians are so nice businesses of all types have started asking for tips in recent years but those tips usually go to the owner and not the employee so you shouldn't tip. If an employee did a great job and you want to tip them you should hand them cash directly don't tip on a tablet or credit card machine as they'll never see that money
