What you heard and what is true, are two different things. The US did not produce weapons for Ukraine. They emptied their stockpiles of equipment and weapons near the end of their effective life. The money allocated was savings from not having to decommission the weapons they sent to Ukraine. Also, the money allocated went straight to US Defence Manufacturers to replace what was sent, then produce spares, plus training for maintenance crews. Ukraine did not wind down its own capability on independence, and so it has been innovating low cost but effective alternatives such as drone tech. Now, the meat and potatoes artillery that's keeping Russia's artillery backed off, is where Ukraine has to innovate again. So Europe can empty its stockpiles, supply civilian aid, and build up its own production capabilities to bring weapons to the fore. Accordingly, the war is going to continue for the foreseeable future.

We're not doing this for that. Why? Because nobody knows what exists, and it's not commercially viable, even if Ukraine was free today. Critical minerals are by products of existing mining operations, which have to be up and running to get the critical minerals... Estimates from industry experts is about 30 years. So, forget about that. It's about drawing a line in the sand, where we stop the democratic backsliding of oligarchs. It's work that will have to be done to protect democracy, by having democratic states strong enough to counter human greed, that would destroy us all. It's an existential thing. You cannot take freedom for granted. It has to be protected and defended. After all, gold is pretty useless in the graveyard.

It's not your money. Lol. It's your country's end of life weapon systems. The US emptied it's stockpiles. That's it. That's why Trump had to inflate the figures, because on a per capita basis, Americans gave to their own Defence industry to ship old stuff to Ukraine, $162 each over 3 years. That's about a dollar a week. You can't even buy a loaf of bread with that a week. Or a quart of milk. Not even a gallon of gas. In contrast, on a per capita basis, much smaller countries in Europe have given much, much more. But we brag a lot less, because it's not about bragging rights. It's about life and death.
