Because that's up to the US to decide it's own tariff rates.

Quite true, but it's like smoking. You give into temptation, and think it won't matter giving in, but boy, it really does.

The world is running out of long spoons to sup with the devils that beset it. The result: a lot of burnt fingers. Considering why the last set of negotiations failed because the US wanted too much, I suspect that even if negotiations were agreed, there would be no quick or easy progress, unless the UK capitulates completely. And considering what happened to the US Allies who did allow NAFTA to be renegotiated, and still got smacked in the face... I don't think we're in any rush any time soon. American owns enough of the UK already.

It also lost a few jobs in the process. And there's no economic upside to these tariffs either. If they go on for 5 years, the loss in jobs and economic output in the US is significant. 500k jobs approx, and the equivalent GDP. Trump's base will suffer buyers remorse and dry their tears with pink slips.
