Not true, by a long chalk. Please look at the poverty statistics when the UK used bullion, and was on the Gold Standard. We know we are much worse off now, because we are experiencing the return of diseases of poverty and deprivation now, than what we did before 1945. Our children grow less in height, more cases of malnutrition are being admitted to hospital, and our life expectancy has stalled - and that was before the pandemic. Attempts to stay on the Gold Standard in the 1920s led to economic disaster, which was not alleviated until we crashed out of it in 1931. If more people knew economic and financial history, we wouldn't keep believing bad ideas.
