Not really. The externalities of colonialism was borne by the governments that pursued it, but the profits were captured only by a small amount of oligarchs, who did not make their societies wealthy. Maintaining those colonies was placed on Taxpayers back home and the colonised peoples. Sounds familiar? It should, because the problem still exists today, despite colonisation, being replaced with economic colonialism. And guess what? Even that's failing in the very same way, just like the British Empire ultimately failed. And in the same way, the wealth derived from economic colonialism isnt shared fairly now.
