Starmer doesn't inspire confidence. In fact, the number of people uninspired by the largest parties is only going to increase. It's ironic that Steve Bray played "Things Can Only Get Better" the song that Labour used in 1997 to troll Sunak. But if you look at the lyrics of that song, it's not a ringing endorsement for the status quo. The composer and lead singer of D:ream grew up on the Falls Road, in Belfast I've heard, so really the ambivalence in the lyrics is perhaps on the money now, as it was then. I shall sit on the banks of the river and see what floats down on the current. (Hopefully, not too much of Therese Coffey's legacy and the like for too much longer.) I'll try and see which characters like those in Winnie the Pooh go by on the tide.
