  1. I don't think you can say that with any certainty. You can be dressed in a suit and still be lazy and ineffective in one's job. After all, we had Boris Johnson as PM. Perhaps that's what you want.

  2. You obviously have never worked in call centres. If you had you would know about the computer apps used to track and manage calls. Those have been around since the 1980s. The apps can track your calls, the length, and record them. And your productivity is tracked for every minute of the day, by the call management system. You spend too much time off taking calls, you are disciplined, spend too much time on a call, you are disciplined. And you are giving strict targets to meet. That plus dealing with the public, and low pay, is why there's usually a high turnover of call centre workers. But you wouldn't know that.

  5. Not really. A room with a door is the same everywhere. It's upto to you to keep it shut, whether it's in an office or your home. You'd know that if you'd worked in one.

  6. I think Lord Rose is invested in Commercial Property, which like everywhere is upto its neck in debt because of how the mortgages for the buildings are structured. And the businesses that are dependent on the commuting workers are losing trade. And I get it, but is commuting 90 minutes each way, 5 days a week, without pay, setting up workers to succeed in the office? Of course not. One size does not suit everyone. And with labour shortages, and women with families needed to create "growth" - at least statistically - employers need to up their game to attract and retain talent. I have to agree with the professor, because I too have done the commuting and working in offices, and it's overrated frankly, for productivity, and for quality of life. Employers need to start thinking outside the box, and value the contribution and productivity of remote workers. We have a productivity crisis of decades long in the UK. So possibly, office work may not be all it's cracked up to be. Why? Underinvestment in skills and technology, and office cultures that actually impede productive working. And the statistics don't lie. France and other European countries work less hours but are more productive and better paid than Britain. Perhaps British employers need to take that on board too.
