  1. I'm reminded of your brief chat about Bagehot, and Badenoch doesn't have the character to carry the Mask of Leadership. A leader has to unite people behind themselves and encourage them to follow her lead, because they respect her, even if they don't like her. She doesn't have that quality. All she has is the hammer of her ambition and everything is a nail. And that doesn't make her marmite. it makes her caustic soda. Is this calibre of people the best the Conservatives have got? And as for Michael Give backing her, he's a lost soul. Cut from the same roll as Rees-Mogg, and Johnson. If you wanted someone who hack a short article on some subject they know nothing about, fine. but when pressed the depth is always missing. And they don't care that it's missing. I'm not sure I'd trust him to give me directions to the bus stop.
