Very well put, Tim. It's quite telling about the lack of interest in why the fire was burning in the post office. Vennells was basically telling them that they had an epidemic of theft by subpostmasters, which she claimed she was rooting out, and nobody thought that was strange. It seems nobody had a firm grip on that part their brief. Or is it that they presumed such a phenomena to be normal in public service? Or was it that they didn't care enough to hold Vennells to account? Or was it the fact that The Post Office was destined to be privatised blunted their senses? All in all, it doesn't inspire confidence in these institutions, or more importantly, who we choose to run them. And the fact that they're all dressed up with gongs - Sir this, Dame that - for being asleep at the wheel, is the equivalent of winning awards just for participation. What a bad joke.
