  1. Because a hypothesis is a description or prediction that is unproven. Whereas conspiracy theories are diseminated as if they were complete descriptions or predictions that are true. The creators of such rarely have the humility to label their conclusions as tentative, but always couch them in dubious, if not outlandish evidence that they believe makes their beliefs true. Hence the snarky label of theory applied to them.
