  1. With respect, I disagree. If more people were familiar with British Economic and Financial History, and had learned the lessons in it, we would have not made the missteps we have made. We would have acknowledged our limitations more, and our talents far more realistically. Robert Napier has a lecture entitled "21 Lessons From Financial History" here on YT on the channel The Library of Mistakes, and early on in his lecture, he makes his the case for paying attention to long term financial and economic shifts, rather than focusing alone on short to medium ones alone is critical. In this, he's backed up by Nobel Laureate Angus Deaton. It's well worth a watch and is not at all boring, because Napier as a former lawyer turned historian just uses facts to make his argument.

  2. Professor, the UK Home Office’s inefficiencies stem from deep-rooted administrative, bureaucratic, and policy failures. Realistically, meaningful reform would require structural, procedural, and cultural changes. But, it seems there is little political will to grasp the nettle. Not even now. So, unless our politicians wake up to the long term damage to the financial and political costs, along with the loss of trust in government, the public will be the loser in the long run.
