It's the defaulting auto loans that is the hidden issue. Bank of America has extremely high rates of defaulting loans. Consumers can't or won't buy new, as evidenced by the hike in used car prices, at first driven by the post-pandemic scarcity in new. but the decline in hiring, and the persistent inflation, and credit tightening means car producers and auto loan providers ain't happy.
