I have to agree. We don't want something like the schools debacle to happen do we? Cheap and nasty and short life span is not the standard of building we want. And as we have a whole industry created to get housebuilders to fix their mistakes in new build homes, we also need adequate and reliable quality control. We wasted millions in our social housing stock built in the 30 years or so after the war, with too many bad examples of poor quality homes built for social housing. That wasn't the case in Europe, where some countries provided well planned and well executed mass housing schemes. We don't want the same mistakes made again.

I think you have failed, because you don't even know how that could be done, how much that would cost, and how it would be funded, and even if we have the workforce needed to do it. And then there's the unintended Consequences. The last time a spurt in building was done, it was for schools, and look what happened there. I want realistic plans and quality homes that will last, and be fit for use. Not some cheap, quick, poorly built boxes that will not last 40 years. We had plenty 9f those in social housing during the 1960's and 1970s and most have had to be torn down. And there's a whole new industry in the UK that helps newbuild owners get their house builders to fix poor workmanship in their homes. We don't want another repetition of that episode in British History thank you.

They already did that in the post war years upto the 1970s. And that was done for British schools. That isn't a problem elsewhere. Good public building schemes can be done, but it takes a change of attitude to do in amongst all involved.
