  1. The most common vacuum tube in use today is probably the cavity magnetron, the heart of a microwave oven. But I think those days may be numbered, in the next 10-20 years we'll probably start seeing solid-state replacements.

  2. An op-amp is a "complex" device made of smaller amplifying elements. The first op-amps were made using discrete vacuum tubes.

  4.  @kongol5036  If real you left out important details. If both phones are on the same line you won't really gain anything. If at least one is amplified you could get feedback oscillations but without careful control of the distance I doubt you'd hit the right frequencies to do anything. For it to work your local equipment would need to be vastly different from that used in the US.
