  1. The most common vacuum tube in use today is probably the cavity magnetron, the heart of a microwave oven. But I think those days may be numbered, in the next 10-20 years we'll probably start seeing solid-state replacements.

  2. An op-amp is a "complex" device made of smaller amplifying elements. The first op-amps were made using discrete vacuum tubes.
