Back then most students wouldn't have known either, it will just be a few showing something to their friends and then making copies.

@SukSukulent On modern systems the system firmware is signed and verified by hardware inside the CPU or PCH. You can't upload hacked firmware and expect it to work. If you're just talking about clearing the NVRAM section, then yes it will probably work fine.

Lenovo M920q Tiny has a speaker. I think it's mainly intended for low-fidelity audio but the beeps are mixed in.

I've never seen a BIOS option to disable the deep speaker. Yes you can disable the sound card but that's different.

If you're running sound the air vibrations will offer some cooling. If you put pure DC on the coil it will be easier to burn out. And besides burning out, it's not rare for antique speakers to have open coils due to corrosion.

On more modern systems it's a teeny tiny buzzer, on older systems it's an actual speaker with a sizeable cone (maybe 3 inches).
