  1. I've been using a Wayland session on my T61p using the nouveau driver on the much more pathetic (by modern standards) Quadro FX 570M. I doubt you'd have any problems related to your choice of card but there's one way to be sure. Just try it and see if anything happens.

  2.  @eduardoroth8207  nouveau is much better with older chips like this, I could run Minecraft fairly well. Contemporary integrated graphics are much worse in performance. And this laptop doesn't have integrated graphics so it's that's not an option.
