  1. So you're saying each DE writing its own compositor is basically writing its own X server replacement? I can't see how TF they're managing that. I thought X itself handles all the hardware acceleration with different modules. On my NVidia laptop I would use xserver-xorg-video-nouveau and my dGPU desktop would require xserver-xorg-video-radeon. How are GNOME and KDE doing this without writing their own drivers?

  2. I think you're very much wrong. Unless I'm very much mistaken you can still run apps from one DE with another's compositor.
