  2. Where I live, evaporative cooling is used, ironically, to make rooms warmer in the winter. In the winter we put wet paper towels over thermostats in places like schools and offices where the setpoint is remotely controlled. This cools the air by the thermostat so it thinks the room is colder than it actually is. The heater is run until this cold area reaches the set temperature, at which point the room itself is warmer than the too-cold temperature set by facilities management.
