  2. On mine from the mid nineties it uses a wax motor (thermal expansion). Newer computer-controlled ones or other brands might be different.

  3. That was such a nice demonstration. My 90s dishwasher, as expected, works basically the same but has less smarts and is instead controlled with an electromechanical timer, a float switch, and a temperature switch. It uses more water than yours and runs the top and bottom at the same time. It washes fine, but then again we prerinse dishes AND we don't use pods.
