For anyone wondering, all Intel x86 CPUs, even the original 8086/8088, use microcode. The ability to update it was introduced with the P6 architecture (Pentium Pro/II/III) which is coincidentally the oldest CUPs supported by stock Debian.

The start of their statement is obviously supposed to be BS but you need to give them some credit on the basis of technicality. This does protect their customer's data because they no longer collect it.

Even though Noctua has rubber on the corners the screws thread directly into the main plastic body. That doesn't really stop vibration transfer but the stretchy mounting "pins" do. So unless I'm not mistaken the built-in isolators only work if the fan is held in without screws, like maybe the spring clips found on some tower CPU coolers.

@BrodieRobertson Since 3.8 the Linux kernel itself has dropped support for the 386. Only 486 and higher are supported these days. As for Debian, recent versions need a 686.

The fact that working on medical devices can be dangerous does not mean that repair information should be hidden. If I take something in to be fixed by someone else I still want to know what is going to be done so I am well-informed.
