So? People sleep on planes that could fall out of the sky. People sleep on buses that could hit a bridge. Those are all more likely than you feeling a bother from a spontaneously exploding torpedo. However, if I were in a poorer Navy, I might worry about battery acid leaking from the torpedo.

I was told by a FedEx colleague who had retired that, at 40, I should not even try to be a pilot. She said the schedule alone would probably wear me out, since carriers are looking to squeeze money out of you every second. She mentioned how sh1tty they treat pilots nowadays. Said one pilot called in sick and FedEx fired him for not flying. Left him stranded and sick in Nairobi. That's terrible.

Why would they? If the company ends up going bankrupt, some of that money might be wasted on court-ordered payments into the underfunded pension! Better to take the cash as soon as you can grab it.

@edrcozonoking - Well, the 24/7 media obsession with telling everyone the current Dow Jones Index also doesn't help. It's about the most useless piece of short-term "news" they could give you. Who uses common news media to follow their investments? Which profitable investors need to know how the DJI was doing throughout the day - and use news channels to accomplish that? Even the common person thinks they need immediate financial results. What brainwashing.

Or better yet, go to the VA when you get out, they literally can send you drugs never prescribed or requested. Then they demand payment. When you try to make phone calls to get someone to give back your money, or check out of the letters they send, nobody responds. You see them in person and they promise the problem is fixed. Meanwhile they get the IRS to withhold your tax refunds and the VA gets your money. That easy. " LEGAL" OUTRIGHT ROBBERY. The US cares about veterans? My ass.

As much as I would have loved to have been a pilot, pilots have no business complaining about salary. You can complain the CEO makes too much, but that doesn't mean you should be paid more. You think your wages suck? Drive a truck for the same hours and schedule and see what you get paid. Nobody cares about what you paid for training. Nobody cares about your responsibilities. If the guy next to you will do for less, he gets the job.

For all the people complaining about money - the solution is not higher pay. Pilots don't deserve higher pay due to supply vs demand. They get the pay driven by supply vs demand and that's it. If pilots think the work warrants higher pay over market value, then they should support wealth redistribution. Of course, that hurts pilots, doesn't help. So, stop the whining.

@stumpedII - You're only fooling yourself now. There is at least one actual reflector put on the moon by astronauts who were on the surface, so yes, we went. You can point your own laser at the reflector and get a signal back, measuring the time and thus implicitly know the distance. Also, other nations have photographed our lunar left-behinds on the moon. Again, proof we were there.
