Why would they? If the company ends up going bankrupt, some of that money might be wasted on court-ordered payments into the underfunded pension! Better to take the cash as soon as you can grab it.

Sue, laying nearby and too weak to move, observes this in dismay, She pleads with both men to catch the rat and share the recovered bread. Guy chuckles, shakes his head in disappoint and responds, "Sue, when will your kind ever learn? Sure, that bread would be enough to get us all through another day, but we can earn a higher return on effort just by picking these meager crumbs off our sack cloth."

@edrcozonoking - Well, the 24/7 media obsession with telling everyone the current Dow Jones Index also doesn't help. It's about the most useless piece of short-term "news" they could give you. Who uses common news media to follow their investments? Which profitable investors need to know how the DJI was doing throughout the day - and use news channels to accomplish that? Even the common person thinks they need immediate financial results. What brainwashing.
