Yea, but your dad didn't have BLUETOOTH! And Apple! And did your dad's truck come in the same color as his watch? You see, that's what amazes people. Many of the same people who think it is amazing that a phone comes out in a previously-unavailable color (and then they cover it!) are the same one's buying cars and trucks. The digital algorithms have captured their minds.

@Digital_Dubz - What were the financing numbers? An $85,000 pickup sold with 10-year financing might just need a down payment for the dealer to find the non-repayment risk acceptable.

@ - Exactly. You should know what your paying in terms of NET PRESENT VALUE. That number includes estimated effects of inflation. Ideally, you would also include the net present value of the cost or benefit of what you would otherwise be putting in an investment. If you can't get these numbers, get a professional accountant to do it for you. If you can't afford it, then (fortunately) the deal is probably to small to be of great value.

Many pick-up truck buyers don't need them. When marketing has created an emotionally-driven demand, that demand can collapse overnight. That has been happening. Part of it might be that finally the country music/rural "cowboy" buyer is more connected to their suburban and urban peers and can't be sold the fantasy any more that their pick-up trucks make them strong heroes. They are just hunks of metal that get things done, sometimes badly depending on the job (like commuting efficiently or parking in small spaces).
