  1. If you gave a crap about our political system, you wouldn't be complaining about one side or the other. You did. You don't care. All you care about is your "team". Rah. Meanwhile, the country suffers because when you have a chance to be heard, you drag the conversation into a forum for nakedly party-based insults. Did it occur to you to mention how Anita Hill was stabbed in the back just so we could elect the most mute justice ever appointed to the SCOTUS? Were you sickened by that? Of course, not. You had your team jersey on during those hearings, your double-can beer helmet on with the hose going into your mouth, and the GOP foam middle finger flipping off the TV. Rah! Open your eyes and try using your brain. If you want to "fix the system", address problems in the system, don't insult half the country with your Jerry Springer-quality party politicking.

  2. The seniority system is one thing that encourages reelection. If constituents don't want to lose their place at the table, they have to re-elect the same guy REGARDLESS OF PARTY! If "your guy" is a committee chairman, do you realize how much power your particular voting jurisdiction (Representative district or Senatorial state) has relative to the rest of the country? If your jurisdiction sends a new representative, your jurisdiction loses that special committee power! So, special interests and voters develop a keen interest in reelecting the same guy. Other special interests that don't benefit from a particular committee are not corresponding motivated to elect someone new for eventually heading another committee, because (a) they can just buy the guy who IS heading that committee, and (b) it would take *decades* for a new guy to even have a shot at being committee chairman. So, until we change the seniority system, EVERY voter has an interest in reelecting their representative!

Cheney was SO intent on generating a narrative, when the FBI and CIA were not lying for him, he grabbed some folks from the Pentagon and began running a propaganda "intel" office from within the White House. This is all known from public records! Eventually, as a result of being sidelined by this, some in the CIA began to "play ball" and put out "intel" with the spin and even lies that Cheney wanted. As for other countries, some people in those other countries had mutual interests in helping the US start war, so they went along. Britain was well known for being willing to join the propaganda parade, for example.

So many have payed an awful price, including Syrians butchered by ISIS. Syria didn't fall apart because of the Arab Spring. It fell apart as a result of consequences of the US destruction of Iraq.

He did it for personal gain and EVEN USED HIS PERSONAL LAWYER TO DO IT. That's a fact. Even Giulani admits he did that! Even Trump admits he did that. So, if he broke the law acting in his personal interest in an act involving obvious national security along with usurping Congress's intent, then he is guilty. Neither Pelosi, Schumer, Maddow, Biden, or anyone else matters. If you are talking about them when talking about Trump's trial, you're deflecting.   50. You asked a question, so listen to the answers. You asked why the Senate would take witnesses. EVERY Senate trial has had witnesses. EVERY. SINGLE. ONE. Not good enough for you? How about common sense. The *SENATE* is runnign the trial. It is a trial, not a review. A trial involves presenting all evidence, including any witnesses for or against the defendant. The Senate has prohibited that without bipartisan agreement. THAT is why. If the Democrats did it, it would be just as wrong. Nothing else matters. The Democrats could be agents of Satan and the GOP could be angels working for God. For all that, the way trials work is that witnesses can be brought forth. That is why EVERY SINGLE SENATE TRIAL HAS HAD WITNESSES. COMMON SENSE.
